The Summer Reading Program at Middletown Thrall Library encourages children to read over the summer. We offer a wide array of programs that are educational and fun for children of all ages.

All you need to sign up is a Middletown Thrall Library Card!

Two New Computers!!!

We are so happy to announce we have installed two new and VERY exciting and entertaining computers in the Children's Department.

Our young patrons will almost DEFINITELY want to try them the next time they come to the library!

These computers feature dozens upon dozens of "edutainment" titles for fun AND learning, so children can get smarter while they play!

Go on educational adventures with popular characters from Sesame Street as well as Diego, Dora, Reader Rabbit, and others!

There are SO MANY exciting games to choose from - something for every young person to enjoy!

Battle of the Books - An Update!

Thrall Library has put together some of its fiercest warrior readers for Battle of the Books, coming up soon on September 8th!

Our teens, grades 6-12 have been working incredibly hard to make our inaugural trip to Battle be a successful one. During Battle the participants will have their knowledge tested on 8 different books from different genres against other library districts throughout RCLS.

First place winners could take home $250! So if you want to come support YOUR library, the Battle will take place at the Pearl River library at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 8th.

"Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier"

"Digital Nation" investigates how computers, the Internet, virtual reality, and many other digital technologies impacted (and will continue to influence) children, families, education, and many other aspects of our lives.

If you don't have time to watch it, PBS is posting videos from the program online at the link above.

This follows an earlier PBS documentary called "Growing Up Online: Just How Radically Is the Internet Transforming the Experience of Childhood" (also worth checking out).

Free Movie at Thrall!

We invite you to enjoy a free animated Disney classic film on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at 2 PM in the Children's Department's Story Hour Room at Middletown Thrall Library.

Here is the Fall 2008 information for children's activities at Thrall:


General Information

Registration is required for all programs except the First Steps toddler program.

Registration starts on Monday, Sept. 8th for all patrons with active RCLS library cards.

Register:
Monday - Thursday: 9 am - 8 pm. Friday: 9 am - 6 pm.

A valid library card must be presented at registration.

Children must be the specified age for the program by the first day of that program.



First Steps

Ages 18 months to 35 months.
Must be accompanied by an adult.

Drop-in for stories, finger plays, and/or songs.

Wednesdays, 9:30 am - 10 am.
No registration required.

Starts: Wednesday, September 24th
Ends: Wednesday, October 29h



Preschool Program


Three to Get Ready and Four to Go!
Ages 3 & 4.

Stories, songs, crafts, and/or games.

Wednesdays, 10:30 am - 11:15 am.
Registration required.

Starts: Wednesday, September 24th
Ends: Wednesday, October 29th

Limited to 12 participants.



School Age Programs

Moving Up
Ages 5-8.

Stories, crafts, and/or games.

Wednesdays, 4:15 - 5 pm.
Registration required.

Limited to 16 participants.


Exploring
Ages 9 - 13

Nonfiction stories, discussion, and/or crafts.

Thursdays, 4:15 - 5 pm.
Registration required.

Ends: Wednesday, October 30th

Limited to 12 participants.

Ages 4 - 11.

Regents Exams

The Regents Exam Prep Center was developed by the Oswego City School District to help students prepare for New York State Regents Exams.

It covers mathematics, science and history regents and includes study strategies, formula sheets, thematic reviews and old examinations.

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) provides old exams with answers at their State Assessment website.

The New York State Library also provides digital copies of exams for all subjects.

Regents Examination schedules can be accessed from here.

Registration for the 2008 Summer Reading program at Middletown Thrall Library will begin on Monday, June 9, 2008 and continue through Monday June 30, 2008.

Registration requires a vaild library card and must be done in person.

The Summer Reading Program starts on Monday July 7, 2008 and continues up to Monday, August 4, 2008.

There's an artist in you waiting to be discovered! Get in touch with your creative side by attending our popular "Come Draw with Me" series in the Children's Department.

This program is held on Saturdays for the age range of 7 to 12 years old. There is a program limit of 15 participants, who must be Middletown Thrall Library card holders.
