Library Director's Report - January 20, 2016

1.	We have received a list of qualified candidates for the position
of part-time Security Officer from Orange County Civil Service. We sent
out canvas letters and conducted interviews before hiring a qualified
candidate who will begin employment at the library on January 19, 2016.
This hire was made necessary following the resignation of a part time
Security Officer in December 2015.

2.	I am recommending that we extend the Library's current Long Range
Plan to continue through 2016 while we gather information to assist with
a revision of our Long Range Plan sometime before the end of the year.

3.	Some Libraries have been reducing fines on their DVD and audio
book collections to encourage increased circulation of these collections
I would like to reduce the fines on DVD's and Audio Books from our
current $1.00 per day to .50 cents per day for a three month period to
determine the impact if any on overall DVD circulation. I would propose
the experiment to start during the second quarter of 2016 so that we
will have some base line data for comparison. I recently attended a
Library workshop at the Mid Hudson Library System where the correlation
of reduced fines and increased circulation of these collections was
discussed.

4. I have been elected to the Middletown Business Improvement
District (BID) Board to serve a term beginning in January 2016.

5.	I am looking into Library's that are lending Mobile Hot Spot
technology. These devices allow people to have a portable connection to
the internet that is approximately the size of a smart phone. I have
polled the RCLS Director's for more information.

I have attended the following meetings in December: Middletown
Business Improvement District (BID), Meeting with the Town of Wallkill
Supervisor at Town of Wallkill. Remarkable Reads Book Discussion
