Ms. Marlena Lange, President, opened the meeting at 7:07pm. B. Minutes Mrs. Hutchinson moved for adoption of the minutes of the December 10, 2008 meeting. Mrs. Boyd seconded. Ayes: Lange, Bell, Berkowitz, Ruckert, Hutchinson, Boyd - 6 Noes: None Motion declared approved. (1/14/09 - 6) C. Visitor Comments No visitors. D. Correspondence A copy of all the correspondence sent to each Board member is attached to the official minutes. E. President's Report Ms. Lange reported that the Union Newsstand has been moved. Ms. Lange said now the Board has to establish a time for a ceremony to put the plaque up in honor of Gertrude Mokotoff for the Art & Foreign Language films. F. Director's Report (A copy of the Director's Report sent to each Board member is attached to the official minutes.) G. Treasurer's Report No report. H. Library Staff Reports The following individuals have been hired: Joseph Cannizzo - PT Page ($7.15 per hour); Jennifer Romano - PT Page ($7.15 per hour); Jerome Weisbaum - PT Library Clerk ($8.25 per hour). All will be starting the week of January 12th. The PERB hearing on the reclassification is scheduled for February 19th in Albany. I. Committee Reports Finance Committee: No report. Building & Grounds: Ms. Lange reported that the custodial staff has done a good job staying on top of the snow. Ms. Lange reported that the phone system went live last week. J. Old Business The Board discussed the recognition for the Friends of Middletown Thrall Library. The Board decided that they would hold it on March 19th after the Friends Board Meeting. K. New Business Mr. Gallagher discussed establishing an ad hoc committee to review gift policies. Ms. Lange and Mr. Gallagher will meet to review the policies and bring suggestions back to the Board. Mr. Gallagher discussed a problem with the City of Middletown over calculation of the library district tax rate and collection. (Memo attached) L.
