Managing "Spam" (Junk Mail)As you begin to regularly use your e-mail account to correspond with other people, you are all the more likely to encounter something called "spam" - the popular term for electronic junk mail. We all receive, by regular mail, things like advertisements and notices for things we either never expressed any interest in or requested. The usual reaction is to throw it out. The same applies on the Internet: just delete the messages you don't want by clicking DELETE when reading the message. Some spam ask you to reply if you do not want to receive more messages - please note, this is often a trap: the spammer (the person or company that sends you this junk mail) wants to confirm your e-mail address is active. Replying usually only causes more spam to arrive. There is no way to eliminate spam, but you can reduce your chances of getting it by being very careful with whom you share your e-mail address. |
