ALTHOUGH CELEBRATED on July 4th, Middletown became a city June 29, 1888. This was commemorated 100 years later in Academy Avenue Park. After a parade from City Hall, Mayor Johnson signed a copy of the Act of Incorporation, the historical marker was dedicated by City Historian Peter Laskaris, and a time capsule was presented. A gazebo built for the ceremony was also dedicated. Betty Hoffman organized the event.
