There were several short-lives theatres that operated in Middletown in the early part of the 20th century. Mid Way Park had a theatre that presented both vaudeville and movies. In 1912 a Schubert Theatre was to be erected on Union Street, but never was. The Middletown Drive-Theatre operated up until 1987 at Bradley's
. In 1971, Carrol's Cinema was opened at Playtog's Plaza on Dolson Avenue. Later called Middletown Cinema, it was torn down in May, 1986, so the view of the new Waldbaum's would not be obstructed. A theatre was built at Orange Plaza, but later abandoned for an expanded cinema at Caldor's Plaza on Route 211.
