Reference - Welcome to the Reference Department at Middletown Thrall Library

Our Mission

The Middletown Thrall Library Reference Department's central mission is to help our patrons locate resources and library materials.

It is a joy and an honor to serve the information needs of our community.

The Reference Desk is usually staffed by two librarians during library hours.

Requests for research assistance may be made in person, by telephone, mail, or through our online Ask a Librarian service.

Our Collections

Collection development occurs throughout the year.

The library's collections include print, audio, videos, ebooks, periodicals, journals, and other items in all formats. These items can be searched through our library catalog.

We also provide access to numerous computer services and electronic resources, which include: business and personal finance, critical thinking, current events, databases and encyclopedias, educational services, government information, history, the LightSwitch Web search, literature, local history, music, poetry, ready reference materials, science and technology, a Virtual Reference Library, and more.

Most of these services can be accessed by current members of Thrall outside of the library (e.g. at home via their personal computers).

Reference staff also work to create and maintain information guides to library and Web resources. These online guides are meant to save our patrons and staff time and to raise everyone's awareness of key resources and related topics at Thrall, throughout the library system, on the Internet, and elsewhere.

We also produce blog posts, newsletters, publications, readers' advisories, and guides to various topics (e.g. evaluating information, learning poetry).
