RESEARCH DESIGN
Historical methodology was used in the writing of this
paper. In this research the investigation resulted in the
discovery of data through an examination of primary and secondary
sources. This was a historical case study of one institution. Additional information for this institutional case study came from lengthy interviews of three individuals who have in varying
degrees knowledge and insight into the history of the City of
Middletown and Middletown Thrall Library, past and present.
Because chronological organization of information is often used
in historical studies of institutions my chapters wi11 follow
this accepted method. There will be one table in the Appendix
which 11st Middletown Thrall Library Directors from 1901 to the
present and their approximate years of service. Another item in
the Appendix will be Kevin J. Gallagher's first library report to
the public outlining Middletown Thrall Library's first year of
service in the new building.
