AT LEFT: Middletown’s first piece of fire fighting equipment purchased in 1821. Although called "Middletown." it is
better known as the old "Bread Tray."
AT RIGHT: Middletown's second fire apparatus, the "Black Joke," purchased in 1845 and named for a well known privateer active during the War of 1812.
AT LEFT: Fire truck house built after Middletown was incorporated as a village in 1848. It stood on East Main Street on the First Congregational Church property. These drawings were done in 1896 by William R. Walton and are from a souvenir booklet issued for the 38th Fire Department parade.
