PHOENIX FIRE HOUSE (John Street): Both the John Street and King Street fire houses were built in 1859 by Benjamin H. Mosher. They were designed by the well known architect Gervase Wheeler. Imiis Hensel's 1883 photo at left shows the Phoenix house with the 1859 Button & Blake engine and Holt & Sherman hose can. The building at right on the corner of Linden
was a factory later converted to an apartment house which was com down in 1962 and is now a parking lot.
