STERN'S BUILDING
AT LEFT: This c1914 postcard shows two North Street buildings which have since been demolished. At left is Demerest's Dept. Store. The building, originally known as the Exchange Building, was completed in 1856 and torn down in 1968. The site is now known as Jerry's Park, after Mayor Jerome Markovits Gervase Wheeler was the architect. The building at right was built as the Empire Block in 1868. S. H. Wilcox was the architect. was torn down about 1960 and the present Woolworth Building erected on the site.
